The story of Kentucky Soaps & Such began in 2003 with our founder, Angela Correll, and her backyard pasture full of pet goats. While Angela was content with the goats simply being pets, her husband Jess felt animals should produce something or retire elsewhere. In order to keep all her pets, Angela began to research goats and discovered the benefits their nutrient rich milk could offer.
Along with her niece, Lea Ann Poynter, the first successful batch of soap was created in September of 2003. The Plainview Farm product line was born, named after Jess and Angela’s Lincoln County farm, and the goats were saved.
Soap was sold to family and friends from a downtown office for three years. In November of 2006, a retail shop on Main Street was opened called Kentucky Soaps & Such, and provided other Kentucky products along with gift baskets.
In 2010, the store doubled its size and increased production capacity as the Plainview Farm product line added offerings and grew in popularity. Today, products are shipped all over the United States and is used by customers in many other countries.
Other downtown endeavors include the Wilderness Road Guest Houses & Rooms, providing modern hospitality in an historic setting, Esther’s Wellhouse, a boutique spa, and the Bluebird café, featuring Marksbury Farm meats, with partner Chef William Hawkins.
Angela’s husband Jess is founder and chairman of First Southern National Bank and chairman of UTG Insurance.
Angela is a best-selling author of the May Hollow Trilogy, fiction with humor, mystery and romance. The story begins with Grounded, continues with Guarded and ends with Granted.
“A Southern saga creates a fully realized world with characters who are easy to get to know and root for; it’s a comfortable place worthy of a return trip.” Kirkus Reviews
Books are available in paperback and hardback and Angela is happy to personalize copies purchased at Kentucky Soaps & Such.
